Location is great once it's in the heart of the Bourbon quarters of Madrid: great nightlife but not disturbing - the hotel is equiped with a quite performing double-glass windows x 2 door-sets. a high-standard hotel in the 20's-40's, has a certain charm and some recently refurbished rooms /suites. Value for money - 65€ - 75€ for a single and double occupation (May.2010), it may fit most travelers willing to stay mostly for the night period, profiting from being at the centre of the triangle Puertas del Sol / Plaza Cibelles+Gran Via / Prado Museum.
People at the reception could be more friendly and warming: they tried to be efficient and that's all. Welcoming behaviour would be appreciated - but not fake sympathy. In this case, not one nor the other. Despite a quite efficient noise isolation from the outside, room walls are thin and voices from side rooms are audible.

The staff here is efficient and dedicated, and the breakfast offering, including made-to-order dishes and indulgent choices, is amazing, surpassing other places we have visited.

We especially like the location of the Hotel Ingles. It is only a couple of short blocks to the Plaza Santa Ana where there are so many choices of tapas bars and shops. The Plaza Mayor is a ten minute walk from the hotel as well as the Prado and Reina Sofia museums and Parque Retiro. We have used this spot before as a starting point for a trip to the south of Spain, since it is close to Atocha station where you can catch a train or rent a car. Great value for the money.

The location in Madrid was the best part--the room was clean and good size, but did not like windows facing inner courtyard.
We couldn't have the windows open because there was a toxic smell from the interior courtyard--the receptionist said is was the kerosene from the heater or something--I thought is was potentially dangerous and noxious. Also, no internet available anywhere in hotel. Another thing is that it was the only hotel in 5 weeks of travel in Spain and Portugal that didn't include breakfast.

Quiet and in good location.
Poor air quality at night with no control over heating.

Centrally located to The Prado, Puerta del Sol and Palacio Real.
We were given an obviously substandard room. I'm not sure if it was because we are American or due to using Booked.net, but there was no air conditioning, no wi-fi (a hotel wide issue) and our door was a flmsy slab door with a lock like you would have on a bathroom stall (which almost did not function). The room was spacious, but I was swimming in my own sweat by 2:00 A.M.
Tourists from South Africa often stay at these properties. Ideas for your future trips.
